Pharmacogenomic
PGx
(PGx) combines the sciences of pharmacology and
genomics to assess how to use information about a person’s genetic
makeup, or genome, to choose the drugs and drug doses that are likely to
work best for that particular person. PGx applications have been characterized for a wide variety of drugs, such as analgesics, antidepressants,
anticoagulants, proton pump inhibitors, and cardiovascular medications, that
are prescribed to tens of millions of people in the United States. For example,
variations in the liver enzyme gene CYP2D6 affect the human body’s
processing of a quarter of all prescription drugs.
NALOXONE
Naloxone is a medication approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) designed to rapidly reverse opioid overdose. It is an opioid antagonist—meaning that it binds to opioid receptors and can reverse and block the effects of other opioids, such as heroin, morphine, and oxycodone.
Administered when a patient is showing signs of opioid overdose, naloxone is a temporary treatment and its effects do not last long. Therefore, it is critical to obtain medical intervention as soon as possible after administering/receiving naloxone.
The medication can be given by intranasal spray (into the nose), intramuscular (into the muscle), subcutaneous (under the skin), or intravenous injection.
A practitioner should assess the need to prescribe naloxone for patients who are taking methadone or buprenorphine receiving or otherwise considered a risk for opioid overdose.

Peptides are smaller versions of proteins. As supplements, they may have anti-aging, anti-inflammatory, or muscle building properties. For this reason, health and cosmetic products often contain different peptides.
